My parents "adopted" Aileen & Dick after my father (career Marine) adopted the two when they arrived in Hawaii for Dick's Marine Corps assignment and his subsequent retirement. I always heard about the two from my parents. After I also retired from the Marine Corps and moved to Pennsylvania, I finally had a chance to meet Aileen in person when she was home visiting family in Pennsylvania. We had been in touch over the years by email, but never met in person until she came to visit someone in the town I lived (State College, PA). When we first met face-to-face I was shocked that we were approximately the same age. I figured she was about the same age as my parents. We had a good laugh about that and continued to stay in touch. After my father passed away Aileen was there for my mother and kept me up to date on how she was doing until my mother passed away. I was aware of her health issues the past few years and we frequently talked on the phone as she moved forward with her life after Dick's passing. Aleen was a sweetheart and was loved by many. I miss her passing.
