Aileen Blanc Obituary

AILEEN BRADLEY BLANC Aileen had a bubbly outgoing personality, a marvelous sense of humor, and deep loyalties. She was born on May 24, 1944, in Mahanoy City, PA to George F. and M. Aileen (nee Sullivan) Bradley. A 1962 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, PA, Aileen continued her education at Mount Aloysius Junior College in Cresson, PA. After working in retail sales in the Washington, DC area for several years, Aileen was looking for adventure. In 1971, she packed her bags and headed for the sunny shores of Hawaii. She kissed a few frogs along the way and then found her Prince: Richard J. Blanc (Dick), a Colonel and jet pilot in the Marine Corps. They married on her birthday in 1974. Aileen quickly adapted to the life of a Marine wife and was the perfect "First Lady" for Dick's assignments which included Washington, DC; Okinawa, Japan; Alameda Naval Air Station, in CA; and back to CINCPAC in Hawaii where he later retired. Following military retirement, Dick started Eagle Ai which was a portrait and video business. The outgoing and personable Aileen restarted her career in sales working for Unisource Paper Company where she was named Salesperson of the Year. The Hawaii division was subsequently bought out and renamed Paper Source, and Aileen worked there until her retirement. Although Dick and Aileen did not have children of their own, Aileen became step grandmother or TuTu to Dick's two granddaughters, Stephanie Blanc and Melissa (Guled Abdullahi) Blanc and treated them as her own. She also remained a good friend to their mother, Teresa Harberg. Being a devout Catholic, Aileen was also a Godmother to many. Losing the love of her life in 1997 was hard for Aileen but she persevered. Then along came another Prince: a retired Marine, Timothy Hudson. Aileen and Tim enjoyed many happy years together until her death on August 12, 2024. Aileen was a long-time member and past president of the Downtown Exchange Club: a community service, social and business organization. To honor her husband's memory and service to his country, Aileen volunteered at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum and quickly became a Member of the Board of the Museum. She became an Emerita Member of the Board in 2022. After suffering a debilitating stroke on June 3, 2021, Aloha Nursing and Rehab Centre in Kaneohe, HI became her new home. Although paralyzed on the left side, she did not become bitter or depressed but faced her hardship with grace. Aileen is survived by her significant other, Tim Hudson of Kailua, HI; her brother George Bradley II of Camp Hill, PA; a niece, Sherry Nesbitt (James) of Elizabethtown, PA; a nephew, George Bradley III (Jeanette Tacka) of Harrisburg, PA; and granddaughters, Stephanie and Melissa Blanc of Federal Way, WA. Aloha 'Oe, Aileen. You lived a wonderful life even though you had some difficult times, you found two great loves in your life and made many life-long friends who will miss you. Aloha and mahalo, Aileen. Until we meet again. Private services will be held after which Aileen will be interred with her husband Dick at Punchbowl. Donations in Aileen's name may be sent to: Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, Historic Ford Island, 319 Lexington Blvd, Honolulu, HI 96818. Arrangements Provided By: Oahu Mortuary

My parents "adopted" Aileen & Dick after my father (career Marine) adopted the two when they arrived in Hawaii for Dick's Marine Corps assignment and his subsequent retirement. I always heard about the two from my parents. After I also retired from the Marine Corps and moved to Pennsylvania, I finally had a chance to meet Aileen in person when she was home visiting family in Pennsylvania. We had been in touch over the years by email, but never met in person until she came to visit someone in the town I lived (State College, PA). When we first met face-to-face I was shocked that we were approximately the same age. I figured she was about the same age as my parents. We had a good laugh about that and continued to stay in touch. After my father passed away Aileen was there for my mother and kept me up to date on how she was doing until my mother passed away. I was aware of her health issues the past few years and we frequently talked on the phone as she moved forward with her life after Dick's passing. Aleen was a sweetheart and was loved by many. I miss her passing.
