Alan Hamamura Obituary

ALAN FUMIO HAMAMURA Retired Navy Captain Alan Fumio Hamamura, age 69, of Honolulu, Hawaii went to be with His Lord on July 5, 2023. During his active life, he graduated from the University of Washington School of Dentistry, married his beautiful bride, was a father, completed a residency in prosthodontics, and retired after serving his country for 23 years in the US Navy Dental Corps. After retirement, he continued enjoying dentistry and served the local communities of Honolulu, Pearl City, and Wai'anae. He also contributed to the education of the next generation of dentists at The Queen's Medical Center. A kind, good-hearted man, he loved people and was well-loved by his patients. Throughout every trial, the Lord was faithful to meet him at every step, and the Lord turned every achievement from impossible to possible. We give all the glory and honor to the Lord for all that He has richly blessed Alan with in his life. He is survived by his wife, daughter, mother, and brother. Come and join us for a celebration of life on Thursday, August 3rd at 6pm at the Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Memorial Hall at Ke'ehi Lagoon Memorial at 2685 North Nimitz Highway. The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: "Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you."- Jeremiah 31:3 To God be the glory! DON T EVANS

February 14, 2025

Alan was my roommate, Christian brother and dear friend in Navy Officer's school in Newport, RI. Never was there a gentler and kinder spirit than he. We would fuddle the others with off-key, country-style, 2-part harmony versions of Amazing Grace in the showers. Life was unfairly hard on him later, but I know that His grace was somehow sufficient for Alan. Faith, if you are reading this, feel free to reach out and hear a few funny stories about your funny, goofy dad. The last time I think I saw you was as an operatic toddler in Japan. I sincerely hope Joy got better. I have just read and am processing this tragic news, but if we recognize each other in heaven, maybe he can look down and see me. -Don Evans, Esq., Wilmington, NC.

Jacque Hodgen

May 25, 2024

This is Jacque Hodgen from Seattle. It wasn't mentioned in his obituary, but he also became an R.N. in Seattle before he returned to Hawaii ("to better serve his community".) He was a fellow classmate sharing clinical locations, rides, and even providing dental care to me and others while we were in nursing school. He also played the guitar for us sometimes! He was a very remarkable person and let his light shine through everything he did. My condolences are with the family and friends that will surely miss him.

We just learned about Alan´s passing. We are greatly saddened, as we have many wonderful memories of Alan when he and my husband Jerry Allen, were in dental school together at the University of Washington. He was my husband´s best friend during that time and became like family. Kind, generous and positive., Alan was a very special person. We will always hold his memory in our hearts. Toni Allen

Alan made me his friend from the very start of ever having met him. His genuine kindness and sincerity is unmatched in all of my circle of relationships, personal and professional.
Alan, may your light and spirit of 'Aloha' shine on into eternity. I will never forget you.

Alan was always a kind hearted person. Always smiling and never a bad thing to say. As Alan always said, "Aw shucks."
Rest in peace my childhood buddy.

Heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers to family and friends on the loss of such a wonderful person. I knew "Hama" from my two years at Roosevelt and believe we probably met walking back and forth from Manoa to school. He had an infectious smile as any picture of "Hama" will depict and we had many a discussion in the hallways of RHS about life, teenage angst and growing up back then followed by his classic "Uurrrr" expression and laughter. After graduation we all ventured off on our respective journeys I was thankful for the opportunity some 45 years later at the RHS reunion to catch up on life and once again "talk story" with him. There are things in life you never really lose, like the friendships and memories we share with the people who touched our life at some moment along the way. "Kimito itsumade mo" my dear "tomodachi", you will and are being missed! Aloha nui loa,
Les Sasaki

I had the pleasure of calling Alan a friend when we were students at UH in the 70s, belonging to the same study group. He was a chatty, friendly whirlwind of energy and enthusiasm. We lost touch but a few years ago while visiting family, Dr. Hamamura approached me at Pali Longs and I was delighted to find him the same affable, warm person that will always reside in my memory. I am very sorry for your loss.
