ALLAN GEORGES GRAPARD Allan Georges Grapard, PhD, 81, of Honomu, died Dec. 8, 2025 at the Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in France, he was a professor of East Asian Languages and Cultural Studies at the University of California Santa Barbara and a Japanophile who held a deep and lifelong love of Japanese Studies. Private services will take place on Oahu at a later date. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts). Survived by wife, Carolyn Isono-Grapard of Honomu; daughter, Cecile Grapard Retrosi of Canastota, New York; son, Pascal Grapard of Montana; brothers, Yannick Grapard of France, Jacques Grapard of France, Francois Grapard of France; three grandsons, Joseph Retrosi, Michael Retrosi, and Matthew Retrosi, all of Canastota, New York; numerous nieces and nephews.
