Alton Maeda Obituary

ALTON MASAO MAEDA Born on June 13, 1946, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Ethel and Melvyn Maeda. He passed on November 24, 2025. As a young boy, he moved with his parents to Los Angeles, California, where he would grow up and build his future. Always a hard worker, Al excelled in every career ambition he pursued. His entrepreneurial spirit led him and his wife, Jeannie, to open and run their restaurant, Hungry Hero, in La Palma, California. Hungry Hero became a gathering placeAl loved to "talk story" with guests and often hosted entertainers who performed Hawaiian music, filling the space with warmth and Aloha. He proudly retired from Southwest Airlines in 2019 after 23 years of service, where he made a lasting impression with his Southwest 'Ohana, who became like family to him. As a father, Al made sure his children always knew how proud he was of them and how deeply he loved them. As a grandfather and great-grandfather, he beamed with pride and never hesitated to share how many grandchildren and great-grandchildren he was blessed with. As a devoted husband, Al waited only nine months to be reunited with his late wife, Jeannie. Al is survived by his children, Donna (Jose) Reyes, Scot Maeda, and Michele (Sandy) Maeda; eleven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. While we mourn his loss, we are deeply grateful for the life he lived and the joy he brought to everyone around him. If there's mischief happening somewhere today, we like to think Al is involvedsmiling and laughing. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 7, 2026, at 11am at 123 N. Cypress Street, Orange, CA 92866. In Al's honor, enjoy some shave ice, share a smile, and remember him. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
