ANN DICK YING YOUNG Ann Dick Ying Young, 93, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 2, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born Feb. 7, 1931, in Guangdong, China, she was the seventh of eight children born to Kon Hing Chun and Shou Ken Lau. In 1957, Ann arrived in Honolulu from China via ship with oldest son Joseph, to reunite with her husband, George Wah Tim. e couple would have four more children. Together, they opened Ying Ying Chop Suey in Liliha and worked tirelessly to provide a stable and happy home life, instilling family values and a strong work ethic in their kids. to raise four minors, with Joe's considerable help. Despite her minimal English, Ann supported the family waitressing at Manoa Chop Suey and Rosie's Lunch in Keeaumoku. Throughout her life, and especially in retirement, Ann enjoyed rousing games of mah jongg with friends and family. She was a great natural cook, learning by taste and making meals without recipes over many decades. Saturday family dinners were a weekly highlight. She created a nurturing home for all and we, her family, will be forever grateful for her determination, love, support and guidance. Ann also was appreciated and respected by extended family members, who now er she sponsored siblings immigrating over from China. Ann is survived by her children: Joseph (Sue), Nancy Leiggi (David), Lena Mori (Pat), Lucy Young-Oda (Dennis) and Jason (Beryl); grandchildren Eric, Christopher (Sarah), China, Nicklaus (Danielle), Zoe and Haley; step-grandchildren Ryan, Travis (Kristin) and Caitlin; great-grandchildren Aria, Alana and Archer; a sister; and many nieces and nephews.
