AUGUST FRED ROBACK, JR. Aged 88, of Makawao, Maui, peacefully passed away on April 23, 2023. Born on March 21, 1935, in Honolulu to the late Cecilia Kaleimamahu and August Fred Roback Sr, he leaves behind a remarkable legacy that touched the lives of many. August proudly served his country as a Korean War veteran in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he dedicated himself to a long and distinguished career in law enforcement, serving with honor in both the Honolulu Police Department and the Maui Police Department. After years of dedicated service, he retired from the State of Hawai'i, leaving an indelible mark on the communities he so faithfully served. Beyond his professional accomplishments, August was a man of many talents and passions. He was a self-taught musician with an innate ability to master various instruments. His love for music brought joy to those around him and enriched his own life. Devoted to his family, August was a loving father and a steadfast husband to his beloved wife, Lahela Dollie Roback, who preceded him in death. Their enduring love and partnership were a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew them. A member of Po'okela Church, he lived a life of piety and was a faithful servant of God. Funeral services to honor August's life will be held at Po'okela Church in Makawao, Maui, on Saturday, June 17. Visitation will commence at 9:30 am, followed by a service at 10:30 am. Additionally, a service will be held on O'ahu at Diamond Head Memorial Park on Saturday, June 24, commencing at 10 am. A lunch will follow both services, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather and celebrate the life of this extraordinary individual. He is predeceased by his wife Lahela Dollie Roback, daughter Tracy Yuhara, and sisters Rowena Mahiko, and June Kim. August leaves behind his cherished sisters, Cecilia Rasmussen of Ewa Beach, Patricia Mae Kumagai of California and his beloved children: Anthony (Jackie) Roback of Kula, Maui; Ryan (Kaleialoha) Roback of Ewa Beach, O'ahu; Jarret (Tina) Roback of Paia, Maui; Moani (Owen) Furuta of Lihu'e, Kaua'i; and hanai son Jim (Cindy) Nees of Eugene, Oregon. He is also survived by 18 adoring grandchildren: Pono (Grace) Roback, Lahela Yuhara, Tiare Yuhara, Kekoa Roback, Gabby (Ian) Pascua, Kaleohone Roback, Miki'oi Roback, Ka'ano'ipua Roback, Malia Yuhara, Kapuaonaona Roback, Pu'uwaialoha Roback, Kamalamalama Roback, Kamalei Roback, Ku'uleialoha Roback, Keola Roback, Healani Roback, Pi'ikea Furuta, and Leimana Furuta. His legacy extends to ten great-grandchildren: Hokulani (Darryn) Kongphan, Zara Mahealani Roback, Braedon Biho, Kaleikaumaka Roback, Pohaikealoha Roback, Nainoa Okamura, Malia Roback, Kuahiwi Roback, Keanu Pascua, Zailey Kekaha-Yuhara, and a great- great-grandchild, Keahi Kongphan. August Fred Roback Jr will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory forever inspire us to live with the same dedication, love, and faith that defined his remarkable life.
