Austin Karnuth Obituary

AUSTIN MILES BUD KARNUTH Austin Miles "Bud" Karnuth passed away at his home in Kahaluu on February 23, 2025, at age 99. He was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1925, the youngest of two children of Austin Miles Karnuth and Frances Evelyn (Jorgensen) Karnuth. During his earlier years he served in the Army-Air Force based in Amarillo, Texas and subsequently earned his degree in Architecture Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He then became an avid traveler fulfilling his dreams of traveling to various islands throughout the South Pacific. In 1958, he married his wife of 60 years, Lotoata (Tai) Karnuth (deceased 2018), in Western Samoa and moved to Hawaii. He made a career at NAVFAC Engineering Command Pacific in Pearl Harbor for over 30 years and raised his close-knit family. He is survived by his five children, June (Stephen) Burke, Ben (Anne) Karnuth, Hana (late John) Rawlings (with Richard Silva), Paul (Moana) Karnuth, Leitu (Jeanne) Karnuth, seven grandchildren, and seven great- grandchildren. A private family memorial will be held at the Karnuth family residence in Kahaluu on Saturday, March 8.
