Barbara Brodhead Obituary

BARBARA JANE BOBBIE BRODHEAD Barbara Jane ("Bobbie") Brodhead passed away on July 5, 2023 in Honolulu. She was the daughter of the late Thomas H. and Elizabeth S. Brodhead, and born and raised on Oahu. Bobbie attended Punahou (Class of 1960), and was graduated from Chapel Hill in Waltham, MA and Mount Ida College in Newton, MA. Bobbie loved sports and worked for the Hawaii Islanders (AAA) Baseball team. She also attended the Pro Bowl, and was known as a devout UH Rainbow Warriors fan, attending Men's and Wahine basketball and volleyball games. She also cheered on local high school teams several days a week, on Fridays Punahou football, and on Saturday, UH football. Bobbie supported local keiki sports: together with major sports brands and The Kwan Company, donating to over 40 local basketball and football teams. This allowed over 800 student-athletes to have uniforms, shoes & accessories. Bobbie's generosity stretched all the way from Hilo, HI to Waimea, Kauai. An avid traveler, Bobbie had circumnavigated the world many times, even living in New Zealand briefly as a teenager. She was a lifelong member of The Parish of Saint Clement, where she warmed the community with her boundless smile. Although Bobbie didn't have any children, she loved them. From her own nieces, to her great nephews, children at sporting events or at church, they were all recipients of her warmth, joy and support. Bobbie is survived by her sisters Virginia ("Ginny") LaPierre of Epping, NH & Thomasene ("Tahmi") Brodhead of Honolulu, her nieces Jennifer Yergeau & Heidi Peabody of NH, and Maile Hatfield of Honolulu, as well as her great nephews from NH: Michael, Jason, & Christopher Yergeau, Harris Hatfield, and Zachary & Nathan Peabody. The family would like to thank the caregivers from Home Instead for their compassionate care of Bobbie for many years, the Handi-Van drivers who took Bobbie to games, and all the student-athletes and coaches who made Bobbie a part of their ohana. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hawaii Youth Impact Program. This youth leadership development program, helps keiki (10-13) from marginalized communities to see themselves in a brighter future through athletics and academics. Checks can be sent to: "Hawaii Youth Impact Program" c/o The Parish of St. Clement, 1515 Wilder Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96822 (note: "Bobbie Brodhead" in memo.) Bobbie had such enthusiasm for her favorite interests. She made a big difference in this world. And her twinkly smile lit up her face. Happy trails, dear Bobbie.

Bobbie was always fun to be around. When she came to Epping, NH we sometimes got together and went to Salisbury Beach to hear some musicians (Rhythm Kings) who were also good friends play. We had some good times. She will be missed.

Bobbie and I were classmates from 3rd grade through High school graduation. Her life's work was a reflection of her love for people. She was friendly to all and friends with many. I do not recall a single time during our entire friendship that Bobbie ever said a cross word about anyone. She dressed in the Aloha Spirit...
Rest in peace dear classmate.

My condolences. We loved Bobbie. She was a loving and kind soul. She helped all three of my children when they went to Punahou. Forever grateful for her generosity

Bobbie was a spitfire of a woman. She made me laugh, worry, and relax. She was always good for the funniest nicknames for people she loved, the latest gossip, and the latest sports news. We spent hours watching jeopardy, and sports. It was an honor to attend wahine volleyball games with her in which she would be the belle of the ball! She had a community of people who knew who she was and knew her so well they even knew her caregivers! It was a cool experience to watch her in her element. I loved Bobbie, she was so special.
