Barry Weinman Obituary

BARRY WEINMAN Barry Weinman, 85, died peacefully in Honolulu, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Brooklyn, NY April 15, 1939, son of Anne Dash and Ira Irving Weinman. He was preceded in death in 2023 by his wife of 60 years, Virginia Starko Weinman. Barry found Virginia at University of Hawaii Hamilton Library in 1962 and were married in 1963. They moved to Silicon Valley in 1968. Barry was a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Allegis Capital/AVI venture capital fund(s). Since 2000 they split their time between Honolulu and Scottsdale. Barry went to Brooklyn Tech High School and received a B.Sci. From Clarkson University. He graduated from Naval Officers Candidate School in Newport R.I., and from Air Controllers School, North Island, San Diego. He served aboard USS Radford DD446, Pearl Harbor 1961-1963 and was deployed to Japan, South China Sea-Vietnam, and Taiwan. Lt. Weinman was assigned to Admiral McCain (Commander US Navy Europe), and Ambassador David Bruce's staff from 1964-1968 in London, where he was Briefing Officer and Speech Writer. He graduated with a MS from London School of Economics. Barry went to the next step on life's journey on his own terms and conditions. He believed that all people should have control over their bodies and health throughout life's journey. Barry was his name, but tennis was his game. He is taking his newly re-strung racquet with him. Even though he was a Venture Capitalist, he could not tell this lie (unusual for VCs) -he had a miserable backhand. Hopefully Virginia will correct his swing. Coach Jun and his various doubles partners tried but to no avail. No services are scheduled.
