BAY PREST Obituary
BAY MARY THI PREST 76 of Honolulu, passed peacefully on June 23, 2024, after a short illness. Survived by husband, Thomas. Her children Phong Vo, Jonathan Atwood, and James Atwood. Her daughters-in-law Sarah, Chi Li, Michelle, and Angela. Her grandchildren Ainsely, Liam, Leilani, and Michael. Her children and grandchildren meant everything to her. She traveled to them for birthdays and holidays. She arrived in the United States from Republic of Vietnam in 1972. She would live in Hawaii for the next fifty years. In America she received her US citizenship during the bicentennial in 1976. She was very proud to be an American citizen. She received her GED at McKinney High School. She worked at Honolulu International Airport as a Security Screener. As a security screener she met many Pilots, air crews, Kamaaina, celebrities and visitors to the islands. She always brought Aloha, smiles, and welcomed everyone she met. She always looked and dressed immaculately with style and grace whether it be at work, home, shopping or traveling. She walked five and half miles every day to stay healthy and fit. She was very photogenic and enjoyed taking pictures during her travels. She enjoyed Vietnamese music, opera, and the cuisine. She traveled with her husband to throughout the United States and internationally to Japan, Korea, and Vietnam always being the person that did all the travel planning and itinerary. She met her husband Thomas 40 years ago at Bellows beach in Waimanalo. She was there with friends and offered him some home-made fried egg rolls. This began their lifelong companionship and friendship. They were married in 1985 in Wahiawa and had a church wedding in Huntington Beach California later in 1986. She supported her husband in his work as a computer security expert and Army officer. Her family would like to thank the Kapiolani Women's medical center for the excellent care by its doctors, nurses, and hospital staff. Bay leaves behind many family members and friends. She went to Vietnam on an annual basis to spend time with her family to includes brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews which she loved very much. She will be laid to rest in Punchbowl National Cemetery and in her hometown in Vietnam where she built a family cemetery. For the past 37 years she has called Plaza Landmark Condo in Honolulu her home. She became friends with many of the people that lived there, she also appreciated the beautiful grounds on the property and the building managers and staff that always made her feel at home. Preceded in death by father and mother Tru Nguyen and Tinh Mai. brothers, Can, Chau, Hon; sisters, Dai Nguyen, and Sau Nguyen. Services to honor her life will be held July 10, 2024, at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary, LLC; visitation 9:30 AM - Service at 10:30 AM. She is truly missed.
