Betsy Turgeon Obituary

BETSY JANE TURGEON Betsy Jane Turgeon, of Aiea, Hawaii, passed away peacefully on July, 30, 2025 in Honolulu, Hawaii, with loved ones by her side. Born on February 9, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa to Carl and Hazel Kimble, she had two sisters - Katie Scoville of Austin, TX and Suzie Hansen of Cincinnati, OH. A loving and dedicated mother to her children Robert (Gail) of Aiea, Timothy (Gay) of Honolulu, and Tracy Ertel (Dan) of Peoria, AZ, Betsy was also a nurturing grandmother to Sarah, Liz Fox, Allie Tear, and Alex Ertel, and a doting great-grandmother, or "GG," to her five beloved great-grandchildren - Nickson West, Juniper and Magnolia Fox, and Sadie and Shane Tear. Betsy was a lifelong teacher, whose career spanned decades at Highlands Childcare Center, from where she retired as a preschool teacher in the mid-1990s. She was a devoted member of Central Union Church, as well as a longtime volunteer at Shriners Children's Hospital. She was also a proud member of the Honolulu Elks Club 616, a former member of the Red Hat Society, and an avid fan of the Golden State Warriors and University of Hawaii athletics. Known for her friendly and open nature, Betsy will be fondly remembered for her warmth, her independent spirit, and her gentle, genuine care for others. Her love for others extended beyond people, as her family recalls the dozens of dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and chickens that she cared for over the years, as well as her beautiful plants and flowers that surrounded her home. Her loved ones will miss her dearly as we continue on in enjoying her favorite activities - lunches with friends, puzzles, dominoes, baking, attending the theater, listening to live music, cheering on her favorite sports teams, and serving others. Her family would like to thank all of her friends and loved ones for their support, comforting words, and love, as we said our goodbyes to Betsy. They would also like to recognize the staff at Tripler Army Medical Center for their commitment to Betsy's comfort and care as she transitioned from this life to the next, as well as their support for her family.
