BRUCE SHEEN KUMASHIRO In Loving Memory of Bruce Kumashiro, a good, good, man. Bruce Sheen Kumashiro, 81, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his Lanikai home with his beloved wife, Charlie, at his side. They shared 32 wonderful years together, building a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. Bruce was a humble man, tenderhearted and content with life. He was always smiling and quick to share a story or two. Highly social, he LOVED his family and friends. Bruce also adored his cat, TAZ, who was hilarious in ways only cat-lovers can understand. Bruce had a zest for life, evident in everything he did. From his love for freediving and SUP to his passion for Lanikai and the natural beauty of Hawaii, Bruce delighted in sharing aloha with everyone he met. Always in superb shape, Bruce remained physically active throughout his life, looking youthful and ageless. He loved working out daily at the YMCA lifting weights and swimming laps. He also loved spearfishing, kayaking, and even snow skiing! A natural athlete, Bruce won several awards when he paddled for Lanikai (Outstanding Senior, Masters, 1989.) Known for his natural curiosity and passion for knowledge, Bruce earned a BA in Anthropology from UCSanta Barbara, a reflection of his lifelong interest in culture, history, and human connection. Many friendsand even visitors who had just met himfound themselves losing track of time in his company, captivated by his many stories. Whether the topic was sumo or Japanese culture, French history or world affairs, Bruce always brought his unique perspective, wisdom, and sense of humor to every conversation. Bruce dedicated 30 years of service to the City & County of Honolulu where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues. He was the supervisor of the Real Property division when he retired. Bruce loved and was loved by his family. He is survived by his wife Charlie(n), nephew John Kumashiro, niece Lisa Shishido (Dean, Evan), cousins Frances Kumashiro (Olin), Sandy St. Gal de Pons (Beau, Camille), Dennis Hayashi (Dawn), and his Florida family (Christopher Rezba, Gracie) and his Minnesota family (who thought he was a movie star!!) Claudia Rezba Lacy (Tim, Rollie, Charlie, Evelyn). He will be missed beyond measure. May we continue to spread aloha, just as Bruce did. Celebration of Life to be planned.
