Cappy Sheeley Obituary

CAPPY SHEELEY Cappy Sheeley, Waterman Hall of Famer, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away in the afternoon on July 31, 2023. He went peacefully, surrounded by his family in his childhood home in Makiki. At 81 years old, Cappy succumbed to a three month battle with stage four melanoma cancer. Despite the battle, he maintained his everlasting strength and optimism until the very end. Cappy was a world class sailer, swimmer, surfer, paddler, and lover of all water sports. In his youth, he was guided by a series of mentors. This lead him to truly value mentorship. Throughout his life he was known to quietly mentor others. One of his greatest joys came from seeing others succeed in the face of adversity. He was a huge supporter of programs such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, for which he sponsored a 5k charity run for about 15 years. Cappy was what every man ought to be. He was an incredibly compassionate, loyal, and humble man filled to the brim with integrity and strength. He had an unforgettable laugh. There will never be another Cappy Sheeley. He will be deeply missed. Cappy is survived by his wife Sandii Sheeley, his daughter Jenna (Cody) Schrader and his four grandchildren Wayne, JD, Ruby, and Kaylee, his sister- in-law Karin Nickola (Ron Brunke) and cousin Kathy Cuevas. There will be a paddle out at 10am in Waikiki (outside the surf break Bowls, off the Sheraton) on Sunday, September 24, 2023. A service at Waikiki Yacht Club will follow.
