I just happend to find Carla's picture on internet and was led to this page. I'm so shock that she passed away. I met Carla 39 years ago in Tokyo when we were both modelng, I was 17 and she was like 24. We room shared for a very short period of time in a small apartment in Tokyo. she was such a beautiful, sincere and very bright woman. We never really got in touch after she went back to Hawaii, but I often rememberd about her and wondered how she was doing. Carla, thank you so much for the wonderful time we'd shared. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
Sincerely,
Miho

I knew Carla from her time bartending at Wave Waikiki in the 80s-90s.
I also remember cheering for her at swimsuit contests held at several locations around Waikiki, so she could win.
What impressed me about her was her intellect. I overheard her speaking Japanese at the Wave and thinking it was going to make me stand out at the bar, I asked her for some water in Japanese. She didn't flinch, she turned filled a glass, gave it to me, and moved on to the next customer. Like I asked in plain English.
She ended up dating my surfing bud Ernie and my crush was crushed, but I was happy for them both.
But, the one thing that will always stand out in my heart was her calling me, out of the blue, one night while I was posting about my girl who I lost contact with in '97. (I found her in Kyoto last August)
She was so empathetic about how worried she was about my mental health regarding this emotional moment in my life.
She talked with me for hours, maybe three hours. We spoke of our common friends and what she was up to. And she made me feel like we'd been close friends for our whole lives, when we had barely been acquaintances. I'm sure I'm not the only one either. She seemed to be that kind of person with her friends and even strangers. She was easy to connect with.
Man, this hit me hard. When I saw that she had passed, I had to set my phone down. Such a beautiful spirit of a person.
And, anyone who has seen her expressions of love for her father will know where she is now, in his loving arms.
Rest peacefully, sweet, kind, Carla. And know your call of support has impacted me deeply.

The news of Carla passing is devastating! I knew Carla from high school and became good friends our freshman year on the cheerleading squad (for Iolani back in the day). Carla was the kindness and caring person. She was extremely talented in her hula. A beautiful woman inside and out. My heart goes out to her family and friends
Until me meet again

Aloha! I´ve known Carla since 7th grade at La Pietra Hawaii School for Girls. I remember taking the bus home after school and she would be taking the bus to go to Hula practice what seemed like everyday! She was always so talented and a bright light that Ill never forget. Although we haven´t seen one another in so many years the sister bond we all shared through our Class of 81 ran deep with the 22 of 44 of us that started in 7th grade together. My heartfelt condolences to her Mom, sister, ohana and friends. I´m so glad a couple classmates had reconnected with her seeing her at the Elks over the last couple years. Glad 3 of our classmates could join in celebrating Carla at her Celebration of Life on Sunday. Rest in Love Carla!

Knew Carla through high school (I at Iolani) and having her allow me to accompany her to Liberty House of Hawaii when she was on the HI Board (?)
Truly a great person who made you feel very comfortable and had a great aura around her. So many memories of spending time with her during our high school years (and for a few moments of meeting "out of the blue" throughout the years after). I think one of the best memories was meeting up with her on a flight to California. While on the flight it seemed like we just picked up from our time in high school.
Will truly miss her. So sorry I never got the chance to keep in touch throughout the later years. But will always remember her for being so genuine.
My prayers and condolences go out to the family.

The memories I have of you are burned in my heart. When you came to visit my roommate in Vancouver i didn´t get why you spent all your time with me and when you went home you always called to talk to me. I never got to tell you that i loved hearing your voice and spending all that time with you, and sorry for accidentally burning your bangs while lighting your cigarette. I regretted losing touch with you. Last summer I started wondering what you were up to and figured I would try harder to find you again when I returned home in November. I sure loved and missed talking to you. you´ve always had a place in my heart Carla, and always will. Spread them angel wings and fly high

I worked with Carla at Mooses for the last two years it was there and also was lucky enough to live right under here apartment on Aloha Ave. In waikiki. She was always full of energy and we would both help each other out often at work and make each other laugh about it at the end of the day. May her beloved soul be in a greater better place now.
Condolences to her entire family.

Carla was our flower girl for our wedding on September 7, 1968, she was only 5 years old at the time. I remember her being the first one down the aisle spreading flower petals as walked towards the front of the church. I was the groom waiting for my bride to come down the aisle after Carla, the lady ring bearer, then bridesmaids. She was so cute in her blue dress. That was the lasting memory we have of Carla. June worked with Frank and that is how Carla came into our lives. June have some contact with Frank and Dodie over the years so it´s fitting that we attend Carla´s service to celebrate her life.

I met Carla at the burrito shop attached to Moose´s in 2016 and really got to know her better when she trained me behind the Moose´s bar. Her sassy, strong, "no BS" attitude was both admirable and intimidating and I may have cried the first week. But she and I sat down on the other side of the bar after that week and I got to see what a kind hearted, loyal and beautiful woman she really was. I spent a lot of time over the next few years laughing, crying, talking about life, and dancing with her - occasionally sleeping on her couch because we´d blink and it would be 4 am. She brought dance back into my life and I´ll never be able to thank her enough for that.
I´m heartbroken to hear of her passing but I know she probably ran straight to her Dad who she loved and missed so very much.
I love you so much, Carla. Rest peacefully beautiful friend. I´ll cheers to you whenever I can...just not with the cooking sherry...once was enough!

I remember Carla in my teen hula class...we may have been 14 then or younger??? and Aunty Ma´iki made her get up to sing and dance a hula...not sure if it was testing time OR to make sure we could all dance and sing like Carla! She performed "Hula Breeze" so wonderfully...her level of hula back then was impressive...and I fondly recall her hula that day which also scared me knowing we had to live up to that talent when we were tested in class! She was awesome!!!
