Carla Imamura Obituary

CARLA JOSEPHINE HIDEKO IMAMURA CARLA JOSEPHINE HIDEKO IMAMURA passed away on August 8, 2023, in Wahiawa, Hawai`i. She was born on November 12, 1951, in Honolulu, Hawai`i to Hideo Imamura, veteran of the 442nd Infantry Regiment, and Rina Imamura, originally from Ancona, Italy (both deceased). Carla attended St. Theresa School, Sacred Hearts Academy (Class of '69), University of Hawai`i at Manoa (Bachelor of Science in Recreation 1975), Indiana State University (Master of Science in Therapeutic Recreation 1976), and Hawai`i Pacific University/ Hawai`i Loa College (Bachelor of Science in Nursing 1994). Carla began her career as a vocational/education specialist from 1977 to 1979 at Lanakila Rehabilitation Center. She became the program specialist/assistant director at Central O`ahu Senior Day Care Center from 1979 to 1981. She worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor at Judith D. Bywater, Med. CRC, Inc. and became self-employed in the field from 1982 to 1994. She then worked as a nurse case manager/consultant for various agencies from 1994 to 1997. Carla's last employment was at Hawai`i State Hospital as a psychiatric registered nurse from 1997 to (her well-deserved retirement) 2016. Carla's professional memberships and honors include Rehabilitation Association of Hawai`i 1982-1994 (Board member 1985, President 1986, Legislative Committee Chair 1987), and Nursing Honor Society (Hawai`i Pacific University/Hawai`i Loa 1994). Carla is survived by her life partner Patricia S. Y. Won; brothers Dennis and Romano; nephews Gavan, Ryan, Gabriel, Remo ("Akoni"), and Lorenzo; grandnephews Mikey, Harley, Cameron, and Joshua; grandnieces Katerina, Ava, U`ilani, and Elizabeth; and a legion of dear friends. Private services and committal of ashes at sea were held on October 14, 2023, Hunananiho, Waimanalo, O`ahu, Hawai`i. Arrangements Provided By: Mililani Memorial Park and Mortuary
