CARROLL W. SULTAN February 14, 1931 October 5, 2025 Carroll Walker Sultan, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, schoolteacher, and community volunteer, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025. She was 94 years old. Born Leila Carroll Walker on February 14, 1931 in Richmond, Virginia, Carroll grew up during the Great Depression and World War IIa true Southern lady whose grace and manners were matched only by her quiet strength. A proud graduate of the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, Carroll began her professional life as a schoolteacher before retiring to raise her family and dedicate herself to her community. After settling in Honolulu, Carroll immersed herself in civic and philanthropic life. She was a longtime member of the Junior League of Honolulu and later the Garden Club of Honolulu, where she cultivated lifelong friendships. Her greatest volunteer passion, however, was her decades-long leadership with the Queen's Medical Center Auxiliary. Beginning each January, Carroll devoted countless hours throughout the year to planning and preparing for the beloved Festival of Trees, a volunteer-run Christmas fundraiser featuring elaborately decorated trees, handmade crafts, and wreaths. This holiday tradition became one of Honolulu's most cherished seasonal events, raising vital funds for Queen's while fostering holiday spirit in our community. Carroll shared her later decades with the love of her life, Edward D. Sultan Jr., with whom she grew her family, made a home, and cultivated a circle of enduring friendships. Together they spent many weekends developing their Double Five Ranch in Waimanalo, Oahu, alongside dear friends and family, where they raised horses for recreation and show. They later spent weekends on Oahu's north shore sharing time with more dear friends and their families on the beach, on a grass paddle tennis court, and evenings by roaring fires. Carroll enjoyed reading extensively and loved bridge, golf, paddle tennis, and exercise classes with friends, as well as relaxing beach days. She and Eddie also shared a lifelong love of travel, exploring the far corners of the world together and with friends with academic study, camaraderie, and joy. Carroll is survived by her daughters Linda Anthony and Susan Loria (Joe), her son Ed Sultan (Rae), her four grandchildrenJane Loria (Isaac Alter), Kelly Loria, Ella Sultan, and Walker Sultan, and sister-in-law Eileen Walker and her family. Carroll's family remembers her as a woman of elegance, generosity, and gratitudesomeone who cherished her family, her friends, and her community. She lived a long, full, and wonderful lifeand she knew it and knowing it gave her a deep sense of gratitude. A private celebration of Carroll's life is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Queen's Medical Center or Straub Benioff Medical Center in Carroll's memory.
