Charles Huxel Obituary

CHARLES HUXEL, CHUCK 1.22.1931-8.31.24 Charles was born in Ohio and grew up in Illinois. He is survived by Leah, Rachel, and Micah (Wife Alitoya). Charles married Nancy Wond in 2005. Nancy never changed her name to Huxel but remains Nancy Wond. Charles was a hydrogeologist who located sources of fresh water in North Dakota, Nevada, Guam and Micronesia. Chuck was exceptionally physically strong and fit. He was a powerful swimmer and body-surfed at Sandy Beach until he was 86 years old. He was the Executive Director of the Democratic Party and President of the Americans for Democratic Action on Oahu. He worked for Congressman Brian Schatz when the Congressman was a Representative in the Hawaii State Legislature. As a man of great faith and a biblical scholar Chuck played many roles at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu. He was a giving and thoughtful human being who led by example whether it was to become more deeply reflective or to be kinder to the disadvantaged. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 12 at 1:00pm at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu, 1730 Punahou Street. Parking behind the church. Additional parking, turn Mauka on Poki Street, park in the lot beyond the corner apartment building.

Mr Huxel was a second father figure to me. I was one of the lucky ones to have him keeping an eye on Micah and myself. Truly legendary and huge in my heart and memories. Thank you Mr. Huxel.

Chuck was a thoroughly decent person. I was honored to know him through ADA Hawaii.
