CHARLES WALL Obituary

CHARLES FRANCIS WALL Charles Francis Wall of Kailua passed away May 2, 2025. Chuck was born in November 1939 and raised in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, by his father, Chick, and mother, Peg, as the oldest of four siblings: Ken, Walter, and little sister Peggi. After graduating from Tolman High School, Chuck joined the Army and served with the Green Berets. Because he fantasized about riding big waves, Chuck moved to Oahu in 1966 to live on the North Shore and realized his dream, riding Waimea, Sunset, Pipe, and all of them for the rest of his life. After earning a computer science degree at the University of Hawaii, Chuck began teaching at UH. The glorious Hawaiian stars aligned, and Chuck met Rosalie Dwight. He fell quickly and devotedly in love, and they married in 1969. Their son, Kelly, was born the following year. Chuck and Rosie got extensively into running in the 1970s and 1980s. He ran more than 20 marathons in his life and Rosie ran more than 30. Chuck joined the Honolulu Marathon Association Board and was the official timer for Honolulu Marathons in the mid-1980s. Professionally, Chuck worked in IT and early computer systems at GTE Hawaiian Telcom, then moved to HEI Industries as Chief Information Officer. An energetic traveler, Chuck flew around the earth twice, visiting countless intriguing destinations, including 15 visits to his favorite, Ireland. This bond also led him to join the Friends of St. Patrick in Hawaii, where he coordinated the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. Although challenged physically in recent years, Chuck kept his signature smile and earned his way back from an impressive number of near-death experiences. Chuck was a true warrior and survivor. He will be missed. Love you, Dad, always Celebration of Life July 12. Email [email protected] for details.
