You were always a favorite of mine in the Youth Choir at First United Methodist in Madison. You didn´t quite have the low note and you just shook your head and said, "Next year." I´ll always remember that and smile

I served with Dr. B in Iraq as his Physicians Assistant. I am so glad I got the chance to meet and serve with him. I still use some of the medical techniques he taught me while we worked in the Battalions Medical Clinic. I could write here for days and never cover all the things he taught me about medicine. What a wonderful person-always happy, I never seen him without a smile and getting ready for the next mission. You will be forever missed.

I have many great memories with COL Burnett. He treated me with such kindness and grace as a pediatric resident. Your love for family, God, country, and medicine was always apparent. No one was more proud of his boys than COL Burnett. I hope that Nancy and his boys will feel loved and supported through this difficult time.

I met Col Burnett during a teaching mission in Gabon. His heart was full of love and kindness. He enjoyed serving others and was always willing to do more. My time with him on that mission was a joy.
Despite his wealth of knowledge and experience, he was willing to learn from those around him. He taught me to respect those of lower rank and value their input.
I was shocked to learn of his passing. He was such a joy to be around, always making everyone laugh with thoughtful jokes. We truly lost a great servant of this nation with his passing. My family and I extend our deepest condolences to all of his relatives

My oldest daughter and family were stationed in Hawaii when my 4 yr old grandson, Keith, became ill and was hospitalized. I hopped on a plane scared to death of what might be happening. Upon arrival I found a caring, compassionate angel named Dr. Burnett! Thankfully Keith got well and was able to attend his sister´s basketball practice! In walked Dr. Burnett! He was her coach!! Mark was always giving!!
Keith will attend WVU with his eyes on a medical career and entering the Army. All things possible through our Lord and His faithful servant Dr. Burnett!! Rest in Peace good sir!! Prayers of comfort and strength for your beautiful family!!

I for one will never forget COL Mark Burnett. He was a passenger in my truck on a day I'm sure my entire battalion would love to forget. I saw this man pour his entire soul into working on saving a life that we all knew was gone. I laughed with him, I cried with him, I even got to be a test dummy for him when he used a pediatric technique on a very very sick 26yo SSG at the time to induce an asthma attack in an attempt to help figure out what I had going on. He let a few of the young medics try this technique (with my consent) in the name of good honest training and I couldn't pass up a chance to help him shape and mold some young Soldiers minds. So I think I got to sit through 4 manually induced asthma attacks so he could train them all right on this technique. I'll never forget you sir! Red Lions for Life!! Rest in eternal piece now.....your work here now is done, till on the fields of Valhalla when we meet again....

To Mark´s Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Mark was always a wonderful person, I ran cross country with him in high school and then rowed with him at the U.W. He was upbeat and hard working and positive. Always a joy to be with. Rest in Peace Mark. I am sending all of you lots of love

COL Burnett was rare. I'm sure I am one of innumerable physician learners who remember every interaction I had with him, because they were all positive and impactful. We're better because of him. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

I had the blessing of being deployed with COL Burnett in Iraq and he often rode in my vehicle and chose to stay with the Soldiers no matter what was transpiring. He was a great man who was professional, humble, passionate about his family and work and truly dedicated to everyone he came in contact with. I am and always will be honored to have served with an extraordinary man like COL Burnett. What a huge loss for so many, but thankful I was part of the chosen who crossed paths with him and learned from him during our conversations.

Not easy to wrap my brain around this. Dr B and I shared one of the more difficult years known in the life of a physician...our internship. I struggled more than he did, and he was always a good, kind friend. We haven´t maintained close contact over the years, but I have always had the best of memories regarding our time together. Thank you, Mark, for being such a great human being, and an amazing role model. You are already greatly missed. Blessings on your family.

Dr. Burnett, my daughter, Emily, was born as you finished up your residency. She became your first pediatric patient. I fully believe you were instrumental in saving her life. Were it not for you. I may not have have my beautiful, smart. Perfectly healthy baby girl. I know your wings will be gorgeous. Fly high in the heavens and know you will be missed by all the lives you have touched during your short time here.
