Dear Darryl,
My condolences to your family. You left us too soon. How can we say goodbye?
You lived according to your motto - "Enjoying life, meeting people, and beauty in nature. And good rock-n-roll too".
We weren´t everyday pals, but as retirees we connected once in a while and when I was traveling recently in Japan you texted me from Vietnam to share news and photos of our old stomping grounds at the Honolulu Lab. I thought, that´s Darryl, always reaching out to friends. And you made friends everywhere!
I will always remember you not only as a good scientist and skillful caretaker of fisheries data but as king of kokua, master of mirth, and Mr. Aloha, always helping others feel welcome to the party.
Aloha, my friend.
