David Kalahiki Obituary

DAVID KAGO KAUKAOHU KALAHIKI Our father, David "Kago" Kaukaohu Kalahiki, Sr., 91 years old, passed away on December 25, 2023, at his home in Wailupe Valley. He was born in Kaneohe to Harry "Hakoli" Kalahiki and Keala Philomina (Pa) Kalahiki. Dad served in the Coast Guard and was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for the Honolulu Fire Department, and retired as a Fireboat Pilot on the Abner T. Longley, based at Pier 15. He held many other positions throughout his life - being a frequent extra on the Hawaii 5-0 series, driving tour and double-decker buses, working on construction projects, and operating heavy machinery. Upon retirement, Dad enjoyed being involved in baseball, supporting kids who played at Aina Haina Community Park, especially his grandson Cody. He was well known as "Papa Dave." Dad even took care of the park grounds. But his greatest love was singing, playing and teaching guitar and ukelele with his friends at the Kapahulu Senior Center Kanikapila class. He is survived by daughters: Wendy (Bill) Barrett, Vida "Leiko" (Garey) Lester, and Mari (John) Kanoho; grandchildren: David "Booboo" Kalahiki, Liam "Nalu" Barrett, Keala Lester, Alana Kanoho Kalahiki, Megan Barrett, Korin "Kehau" Lester, Casey Kalahiki, Cody Barrett, and Kawehi "Coco" Kanoho-Kalahiki; 19 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Mary Kalahiki, sons David Kalahiki, Jr., Dan Kai Kalahiki, and daughter Maria Kalahiki, his parents, and siblings Hilda Mahi, Maleka Mead, Harry "Hakoli" Kalahiki, Jr., George Ki'lau Kalahiki, Mala Kalahiki, Beatrice Lake, Robert Kalahiki, Sonny Kalahiki, Joseph Kalahiki, Nami Kalahiki and Mele Pa Kalahiki Services will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Diamond Head Mortuary Chapel, 529 18th Avenue. Visitation at 9:30am and Services at 10am. Burial will be held at 1pm at Punchbowl, National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
