A Love That Spanned Decades
By Keith Kwock

In the summer of 2002, when the world was simpler and days seemed longer, I first laid eyes on Debbie. It was a moment that etched itself into my memory with the clarity of a brilliant sunrise. We met at a mutual friend's gathering, and the instant connection we felt was undeniable. It was love at first sight.

Despite the intensity of our feelings, the timing wasn´t right. Both of us were at the beginning of our own personal journeys, full of dreams and aspirations that seemed to pull us in different directions. We spent a few unforgettable months together, exploring the depths of our connection, but ultimately, we made the difficult decision to part ways. We were young and had much to experience and learn about life and ourselves.

The years rolled on, each of us carving out our own paths. I moved through life with the ebb and flow of relationships, careers, and personal growth. Debbie did the same, creating her own history filled with moments of joy, heartache, and discovery. Though our lives were separate, the memory of her never truly left my heart.

Fast forward to 2023, a full 21 years since our first meeting. By some twist of fate, our paths crossed once again. It was as if the universe had conspired to bring us back together at just the right moment. When I saw Debbie again, standing there with the same light in her eyes, it felt like time had folded in on itself. Love at first sight, once more.

In that moment of reunion, I paused, realizing with profound clarity that she was the one I had been waiting for all my life. Every relationship, every joy, and every sorrow had led me back to her. We both knew that our separation had been necessary, that the years apart had shaped us into the people we needed to be for each other.

The love we shared was rekindled with an intensity that defied the years we had spent apart. It was as if no time had passed at all, and yet we were both so much wiser, more appreciative of the rare gift we had been given. We spoke for hours, days, catching up on the lives we had led, marveling at how our experiences had somehow always seemed to mirror each other´s, leading us back to this moment.

The next few months were a whirlwind of happiness and contentment. We embraced our second chance with a fervor, making up for lost time and building new memories together. Our love story, interrupted but never forgotten, resumed with a beauty that was both poignant and joyful.

Then came June 30, 2023, a date that would forever be etched into my soul. Debbie passed away, leaving a void that could never truly be filled. But even in my sorrow, I am filled with gratitude for the time we had. Our love, brief yet eternal, was a testament to the power of fate and the enduring nature of true connection.

Our story is one of patience, fate, and the undeniable bond that can exist between two people. It´s a reminder that sometimes, love finds a way, no matter how much time has passed. And while Debbie may no longer be physically present, her spirit and the love we shared will remain with me always, a guiding light through the rest of my days.
