Dennis Mizuo Obituary

DENNIS TAKEJI MIZUO May 2, 1943 - June 20, 2024 Dennis Mizuo left our world very suddenly and unexpectedly on June 20, 2024. He passed away while fishing, his favorite hobby, and holding his favorite rod and reel. He had been unable to fish for over a year following a stroke in early 2023 but recovered amazingly well to be reunited with fishing and the sea on the last day of his life. Dennis was the second of four children born to Tadashi and Mitsue Mizuo of Kauai. He spoke fondly of his childhood during which time his dad taught him how to become a skillful fisherman. Years later when Dennis himself became a dad, he was proud to sustain the tradition by fishing with his son. Dennis resided in Manoa Valley with his wife Sharon, and together they raised their two children Barry and Mari. Dennis enjoyed quality family time; dining with friends; watching Korean and Japanese dramas; "coaching" the San Francisco 49ers from his recliner; and playing and caring for his two precious grandchildren. Dennis will be deeply missed for his generous, kind and protective spirit. He was preceded in death by his parents Tadashi and Mitsue Mizuo. Dennis is survived by his wife Sharon, son Dr. Barry (Jennifer) Mizuo, daughter Mari (Dr. Kevin) Kitagawa, granddaughter Mia Kitagawa, grandson Brody Mizuo, granddogs Coco and Momo, sister Joyce Hayashi, brothers Kenneth (Lynette) Mizuo, Gary (Sharlyn) Mizuo, and nieces and nephews. Private services were held with arrangements by Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary. In accordance with his wishes Dennis' ashes will be scattered at sea. The family kindly requests no koden.
