DONALD RUDD Obituary

DONALD S. RUDD Donald Stuart Rudd, loving husband, father of four, grandfather of six, and great grandfather of six, passed away in Charlottesville, VA on April 8, 2023. Don was born on January 16, 1931, in Astoria, Oregon, to Malvin and Elaine Rudd. He received his business degree from his beloved alma mater, the University of Oregon ('53), and remained actively involved in his fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi. On September 1, 1951, he married Barbara Sim Rudd, and together they raised four children. Don joined the JCPenney Company in 1953 and excelled throughout his illustrious career including two corporate tours in NYC enjoying the Broadway Shows and dining. He retired as the General Store Manager of JCPenney Ala Moana Center in 1991. His staff and the associates became family to him, and he was loved by all who knew him. After retirement Don and Barbara split time in San Francisco and Lake Tahoe and a couple years in Guam before moving back to Hawaii to be with friends. In 2014 they moved closer to family in Charlottesville, VA. Don had a passion for sailing, and one of his most exciting sails was from Honolulu to Tahiti with three friends from the Waikiki Yacht Club - his trip of a lifetime. He and Barbara enjoyed many hours at the Fraternal Order of the Elks in Honolulu with friends and visiting family. Don loved listening to music, collecting stamps and clowns, playing bridge, and tending to his bonsai plants. He was known for his kind, compassionate spirit to all who knew him. Honolulu was his beloved adopted home. Don is survived by his wife of 71 years, Barbara; his four children: Terresa, Debra, Michael and Brenda, and their extended families.
