DOROTHY LOO Obituary

DOROTHY SAU PUNG LOO 102, passed peacefully in her sleep on January 5, 2022, in Portland, Oregon. Dorothy was born on January 28, 1919, in Honolulu, to Jou Sin and Hun Sin Chun. In her early years, she assumed traditional family responsibilities as the eldest daughter, and toiled selflessly to help support her brothers and sister. In 1945, she married Clarence C.T. Loo. Together they raised five children in Kailua, Kaneohe, then Pacific Heights. After Clarence passed away unexpectedly in 1968, Dorothy continued to support and nurture her beloved family. Affectionately called Popo, she lived for the next half a century, traveling between her home in Honolulu and her daughter's family in Portland, Oregon. Kind, unassuming, and generous, Popo brightened the lives and inspired all who were lucky enough to know her. Dorothy loved a good story, thoroughly enjoyed parties, and her smile and laughter were infectious. She filled her life with fun and adventure, and was always willing to try new experiences, whether going on cruises all over the world with her friends and family, or picking blueberries and peaches and cleaning razor clams in Oregon. At age 93, she had the courage and agility to suit up, climb through the window and into the passenger seat of a race car, and speed 170 mph around the NASCAR race track in Las Vegas. She emerged laughing and with a big smile. Dorothy was one of those rare people fortunate enough to live a long and full life, while at the same time enriching the lives of others. We all loved Popo, and will miss her dearly. She will always be our Sunshine. Survivors include daughters Barbara Loo and Donna (Gerald) Ching, sons John (Leonora) Loo, James (Edie) Loo, Jerry (Jo-Ann) Loo, grandchildren Danny (Darlene) Loo, Kevin Loo, Kathy Ching, and great-granddaughters Kayli and Phoenix Loo. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence C.T. Loo and grandson Brian Ching. She also leaves behind her sister Beatrice Murakami, as well as numerous loving members of the Chun and Loo families. An inurnment at Nuuanu Memorial Park for immediate family will be scheduled at a later date. Private services.
