Douglas Shiraishi Obituary

DOUGLAS YUKIO SHIRAISHI Retired Master Sergeant Douglas (Yuki) Yukio Shiraishi, 81, of El Paso, Texas, left us on August 16th, to rejoin his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Janet Annette Shiraishi, who left us this past June. He was born on December 11, 1942 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is survived by two daughters, Regina (Robert) Fontaine, Lynette Shiraishi Strecker, and son, Douglas (Siew Foon) Yukio Shiraishi II; brothers, George Shiraishi, Barney (Mae) Shiraishi, Larry (Amy) Shiraishi, Ricky Shiraishi; sisters, Clara Mahoe, Violet Nakano, Marion Snyder; grandson Gabrial and granddaughter Devan, as well as, many nieces and nephews. A 24-year veteran of the United States Army, Douglas was stationed in many locations around the world. During his enlistment, he always taught his children that we should first identify the similarities of people before acknowledging the differences, as our similarities make it easier to bond. After retiring from the military, he would continue to support them as a government contractor for an additional 20 years. Once fully retired, Douglas enjoyed cooking and caring for his wife, hanging out with his dog, Sandy, and he was an avid fisherman and member of the Ascarate Fishing Club for many years, but nothing could compare to the joy he felt when he spent time with his two grandchildren. There will be no services at this time, but a memorial service will be planned in February 2025 in which Douglas and Janet would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. In lieu of sending flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association at https://www.alz.org/.
