DUDLEY FULLARD-LEO Obituary

DUDLEY L. FULLARD-LEO 20 September 1928 27 June 2024 Running barefoot, surfing Waikiki breaks with his dog Gypsy, Dudley had a deep fondness for life's adventures. With Ainsley along, life seemed idyllic for the brothers during the 30's & 40's in Hawai'i. Sports were always a big part of life with both parents actively involved in the promotion of amateur athletics, record keeping, coaching, and participating, especially in swimming. Dudley celebrated his 75th high school reunion last year as a proud 1948 Punahou graduate. Back in the day, he went on to Cal-Poly for engineering, then served in the U.S. Coast Guard where began his love of flight. This love was only ever overshadowed when he met Martha Lee Lane, redhead, and bride for life. Dudley & Marti's married life together began on the plantations of Hawai'i and Kaua'i, and gave way to life on the Windward side of O'ahu in Kailua. A daughter and twin sons kept Marti busy, with Dudley as the consummate provider. Among others, Dudley helped to start Hilo's Civil Air Patrol, and was a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Pearl Harbor. Known as a task master who once motivated a construction crew at another companies' jobsite, Dudley enjoyed being a 'Dragon' boss throughout his life. He was precise, multitalented, and could fix anything. All around O'ahu, Dad could point to structures that he'd had a part in building, or inspecting cranes that moved the day along. For decades, Dudley continued as a director of now, a fourth-generation legacy business. He believed in the value of good, honest work, and that one's word was one's bond. Dudley was deeply thoughtful, kind and generous, and loved being a regular person. He dearly missed Marti, his brothers, and a son along with so many friends and family that passed on before he had. Beverly Markoskie, dear companion of the most recent 15 years, helped modernize dad with levity and an akamai hipness through many more adventures together. Dad loved a road trip, and he loved the freedom of soaring through the skies. Dudley's remaining relatives include grandson William, son Gregory, daughter Vickie, and sister-in-law Betty. Also, nephews Matthew (Nelly) & Marcus (Michel) with 7 sons among them; and niece Lee Kline. E komo mai, come hear some stories and visit with us at his Celebration of Life. Thurston Memorial Chapel, Punahou Campus. Saturday, August 31: Visitation at 1:30, service at 2:30.

I meet Dudley in 1970 in the HNL Airport. I knew him because of the issue of Kingman Reef as it related to talks that Charles Evans Hughes had with Carl Lomen over the guano islands of Kingman's Reef and Swains Atoll in the Pacific on 13 May 1924.
