DUKE CHUNG Obituary

DUKE H. CHUNG, JR. Beloved husband, father, and grand- father, passed away at the age of 82 on July 10, 2023. Duke was born to Duke Sr. and Betty Chung on the island of Kauai. He moved with his parents to Oahu. His sister Betty (Bootsie) was born soon after. They both graduated from Punahou School. Duke attended Texas A&M, joined the Marine Reserves, and finished his degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Hawaii. He worked for Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate for 17 years and then moved on to the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, where he worked for another 31 years. During his career, he became a licensed Civil Engineer and a certified water systems operator. Duke was active in the community and helpful to others by giving his time and energy to the Korean National Association (Kook Min Hur), Y's Men International (related to the YMCA), and the Korean Golf Club. In these organizations, he provided helpful leadership and served in several officer roles. In addition, Duke loved scuba diving, watching football, playing golf (also attending the 19th hole!), singing karaoke, and getting his regular Vegas fix. Duke is survived by his wife of 58 years, Linda (Yamasaki), sons Duke III (Jill Fujiwara) and Greg (Kristi Miyata), and grandson Christopher. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Borthwick Mortuary (visitation at 8:30 am, service at 9:30 am). Burial to follow at Hawaii Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:00 pm. No flowers please. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to YMCA of Honolulu in the memory of Duke H. Chung, Jr. (https://www.ymcahonolulu.org/donate)
