Estelle Sumimoto Obituary

ESTELLE YOSHIE SUZUKI SUMIMOTO 90, of Kailua, Hawai'i, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, at The Plaza at Kaneohe. She was born on May 26, 1934, in Honolulu. A proud alumna of Roosevelt High School, Estelle was an active member of several community organizations, including the Japanese Women's Society, the Hawaii Watercolor Society, the Association of Hawaiian Artists, and the Hoaloha Mau Loa (Friends Forever) club. Her passions included cooking, baking, and a wide array of arts and crafts. She especially loved painting, floral arranging with both silk and fresh flowers, and tending to her garden. Estelle dedicated her career to education as an elementary school teacher. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Her teaching journey began in Bakersfield, California, and continued at Maunawili Elementary and Kailua Elementary in Kailua, Hawai'i. After retiring from teaching, she enjoyed working alongside her son at the family's floral and plant shop, Living Interiors. She is survived by her children, Liane (Randall) Iraha, Kevin (Donna) Sumimoto, and Darin (Christine) Sumimoto; and her beloved grandchildren, Rylie (Dillon), Katelyn, Noah, Karissa, Dane, Ryder, and Grey. She is also survived by her sisters, Marion Sumimoto, Diane Suzuki, and Joy Suzuki. In accordance with her wishes, a private service for family and friends will be held, with inurnment to follow.
