Frances Kakazu Obituary

FRANCES S. KAKAZU YAGO: NISHIKAKAZU Frances Santos Bras Kakazu was born in Makawao, Maui, on June 4, 1929. She passed away peacefully in Honolulu, at Manoa Cottage Kaimuki, on April 26, 2025 at the age of 95. She retired from Honolulu Community College, as secretary to the provost, in December 1986. She continued to work at various DOE schools until her final retirement from Castle High School in June 2009. Mrs. Kakazu was a former secretary of HUOA and the Oroku Azajin Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Samuel Kakazu, Sr.; her infant daughter, Penelope Ann Kakazu; her sister, Clarissa Pacheco; and her brother, Bertram Santos. She is survived by her son, Samuel Kakazu, Jr., and daughters, Candyce (Thomas Jr.) Kaaiai, Roberta (Paul) Williams, and Kersten Haru; grandchildren, Everett Fujii (Mikiko Tani), Cori Fujii (Donald Puathasnanon), Ihilani Haru (Brent Shimabukuro), and Hi'ilei Haru (Cody Hendrix); great-grandchildren, Micah and Logan Puathasnanon, Braylen Shimabukuro, and Hugh Hendrix; sister-in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family will miss her love, support, and guidance. Funeral services at Hosoi Garden Mortuary on Saturday, November 22, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the service to follow at 10:00 a.m. A private interment will be held. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary

I remember working with Frances when I was a student aide at Honolulu Community College. She was so nice to work with and such a hard worker. She was a No Nonsense secretary and nothing got past her. Rest in Peace Frances and fly with angels!
