Frances Terayama Obituary

FRANCES S. TERAYAMA Frances Shigeko Terayama passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on May 21, 2024. Born in Lanai City, Frances graduated from McKinley High School in the class of 1952. In 1955, she married George Terayama and together they started their family in Manoa. In 1965, they settled into a new home in Kaneohe with their four sons. Frances worked as a bookkeeper at Kailua High School until her retirement in 1995. After retiring, she applied her bookkeeping skills at Nanko Fishing Supply, helping her son Tab with his business until she fully retired in 2005. In retirement, Frances turned her yard into a stunning botanical garden, showcasing bonsai, orchids, and various ornamentals, drawing compliments from neighbors and visitors alike, which she humbly appreciated. She also enjoyed traveling, cooking and sharing traditional dishes, and hosting weekend family dinners where she delighted in catching up on her grandchildren's activities. Frances' beautiful, radiant smile, sense of humor, and exuberance for life will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, George Terayama. She is survived by her four sons, Lance (Sandra), Tab, Miles (Gaye), and Ryan (Trina); her four brothers, Richard, David (Winnie), Frank (Linda), and James (Marilyn); her five sisters, Agnes Arii, Verna Shiroma, Rachel Okimura (Ralph), Mabel Hirata, and Joyce Sayphone; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Private memorial services were held. The family requests no monetary gifts (koden), please. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
