Frederick Hall Obituary

Fred and I were good friends. Whenever we bumped into each other in the parking lot or on campus, we stopped for a chat to catch up on our lives, family, St. Louis and UH football, and current events. He was well-read and knowledgeable on a wide range of topics, and he always saw the humor and irony in life. He had the warmest smile and gentlest manner. He was aloha. Once he started me laughing, all stress and fatigue disappeared, and I felt lighter on my feet. I've lost track of the number of times he helped me with car issues in the parking lot, in rain or shine. What many might not have known is how devoted he was to his family and how he always worked additional part-time jobs to provide a better life for them. After I started teaching online many years ago, I seldom went to the Diamond Head campus and gradually lost touch with Fred. For me, he was the heart of KCC. I'm certain I'm not the only one he befriended, and I'm sure countless others have similar stories to tell. Aloha `oe, Freddy! I'll never forget you. -Jimmy Shimabukuro
