Geoffrey Johnson Obituary

GEOFFREY MICHAEL JOHNSON Geoffrey Johnson passed peacefully on Oahu on August 31, surrounded by his sons Jaaron and Jourdon, his daughter-in-law Kelsey, and dear friend David. He died at 74 due to complications from Parkinson's disease. Geoffrey was born in Denver, CO, one of two sons born to Kenneth and Irene Johnson. The family moved to Pasadena, CA in 1957. His father was a commercial artist in the aerospace industry and his mother an employment counselor in the Los Angeles Unified School District. After graduating from John Muir High School and attending Pasadena City College, Geoffrey and first wife Rita Smith moved to Oahu in 1975. He worked as employment development manager for Honolulu's Work Hawai'i Program, and later became Compliance Officer for the US Department of Labor. In 1991 he was appointed American Savings Bank's Affirmative Action Officer. In 1986 Geoffrey married Cindy Blackburn and together they raised their two sons. They divorced after many years, but remained friends. In 2001 Geoffrey established HRremedies, a successful private consulting firm which provided equal employment opportunity and affirmative action training to small and mid-size federal contractors. He served as chair of the Hawaii Industry Liaison Group and was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Industry Liaison Group (NILG). Geoffrey's peers selected him to serve on the NILG executive committee, and twice elected him Board chair. He loved sports, music, international cruises, dogs and cats, and, more than anything, caring for his two sons. He played golf and tennis, and was an active member of the Oahu Club. He packed a lot of love, warmth, wit, and charm in his 6'6" frame. The epitome of a gentle giant, he was unfailingly kind and generous, with a smile that would brighten a room and wonderful stories to share. Geoffrey leaves behind his two devoted sons Jourdon and Jaaron, Jaaron's wife Kelsey, his loving older brother Mark and partner Shoshana, and many wonderful and caring friends and family. During his last years he was fortunate to be attended by several compassionate caregivers. A celebration of Geoffrey's life is scheduled for February 27, 2024 at 3PM at the Olomana golf club in Waimanalo. Arrangements Provided By: Oahu Cemetery and Crematory
