George Shimabuku Obituary

GEORGE KAZUO SHIMABUKU George Kazuo Shimabuku, 96, of Honolulu, passed peacefully in his sleep into eternity on July 29, 2024. He was born in Honolulu to Kamazen and Kanako Shimabuku and was the oldest of four siblings. After graduating from high school, he served in the military. George built a successful career in sales for Shima & Son Drapery and, later, in the insurance industry. He had several life-long loves: his wife, Peggy, with whom he enjoyed 65 years of wedded bliss; baseball, which led him to play in various community leagues and later become a respected league umpire; playing the harmonica and guitar, which were both self-taught; and an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ - George was a long-time member of Kapahulu Bible Church and its choir, and a volunteer with the Oahu Prison Ministry for 11 years. He was a member of the Hawaii United Okinawan Association. He loved to travel, visiting Europe and Asia. He treasured and delighted in his family and friends. He was loved greatly and will be missed by those whose lives he touched. George is survived by wife, Peggy; daughters Tracy (Bernard) Burgo, and Kerrie (Duncan) Parlett; son, Jon (Leilani) Shimabuku; sister Florence Yogi; brothers Gary S. Inamine, M.D., and Glenn Shimabuku; grandchildren Heather (Scott) Carvalho, Chelsea (Tony) Pelleritti, and Adam Burgo; 2 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. A private Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation to the Blood Bank of Hawaii.
