Gertrude Nakamura Obituary

GERTRUDE TRUDIE SACHIKO NAKAMURA 88, of Waipahu, Hawai'i, embarked on her final journey to her eternal reunion with loved ones, on April 4, 2025. Born in Hakalau, Hawai'i Island, Trudie was raised in Pahala, where she graduated from Pahala High & Elementary School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana State University, where she spread the aloha spirit to those around her. She returned to the islands, taught in Wai'anae and Waiahole on O'ahu, before she settled in Los Angeles to start a family and build her career. She took early retirement from the Montebello Unified School District after 35 years as an elementary school teacher and returned home. From the very beginning, she lived true to her high school motto, "The vocation of every man and woman is to save each other." Her kindness and selfless generosity lifted those around her. A rich and fulfilling life shared with family and many close friends across the Pacific. It is comforting to know that she touched, and was touched, by so many people throughout her life. Trudie was predeceased by her parents, Eric Isami and Mizuno Shimizu; brothers, Allan Hakaru and Harold Seiji Shimizu; and grandson, Ryan Kaneo Query. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, James Sadao Nakamura; daughter, Darcy Sachiko Nakamura (William) Query; granddaughters, Nicole Sachiko Query and Erica Sachiko Query; sister, Eleanor Aichan Kawamura; brother, Calvin Masami (Missy) Shimizu; many nieces, nephews; and close, life-long friends. Private Gathering Held. The family kindly requests no Koden (monetary offerings) and asks instead to please consider contributions to your favorite charitable organization in her name.
