HANNAH FREITAS Obituary

HANNAH HALEAKA KAHULAMU WILSON FREITAS Hannah Haleaka Kahulamu Wilson Freitas, beloved mother, nana, and kupuna, was born on March 11, 1933, in Holualoa, Kona. Surrounded by family, she peacefully passed away on March 24, 2026. Hannah was the daughter of Edward Alameida Wilson and Hannah Kahulamu Wilson. She graduated from Konawaena High School in 1951 and later earned a degree in Commercial Sewing from Hawaii Vocational School in 1953. Growing up in Kona, Hannah was a talented young hula dancer who performed at the Kona Inn. After completing her education, she worked as a professional seamstress at Nancy's Dress Shop, Vana's, and Margo's Bridal Shop in Hilo. A master of her craft, she created countless beautiful garmentsespecially wedding gownseach sewn with patience, precision, and love. Her artistry and dedication continued until her retirement. She possessed a special gift for nurturing both keiki and kupuna, offering wisdom, patience, and unconditional love. Her home was a place of warmthfilled with laughter, comfort, and cherished lessons passed down through generations. Hannah lived a life deeply rooted in love, strength, and devotion to family. She was known for her quiet resilience, gentle spirit, and steadfast presence. Guided by strong values, she carried herself with grace and humility, always placing family first and leading by example. Her love for community was equally strong. Hannah dedicated countless hours to service as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 20 in Kona, where she held several leadership roles. She was also a lifetime member of Women's Aglow International, Kona, a respected kupuna of Kahalu'u, Kona, and a cultural advisor for Wahi Kupuna. Hannah was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Raymond Freitas; her brother, Joseph Wilson; and her sisters, Dorothy Sipe and Clara Mullinax. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Kalani Hamm, and her brother, William "Billy" (Sophie) Wilson. She is also survived by her children: Kelvin (Brenda) Freitas of Kona, Phyllis (Dale) Freitas of Honolulu, and Bradley (Teri) Freitas of Las Vegas; her hanai daughter, Michelle (Terence) Rodero of Hilo; 15 grandchildren; and 40 great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Connect Point Church, 773 Kaumana Drive, Hilo. Visitation-9:00am. Service-10:00am Aloha attire is requested, and if possible, guests are encouraged to wear redHannah's favorite color.
