Leilani I am so sorry for your loss. Harold was a wonderful person and inspired many officers by his outstanding leadership and loyalty. He was like a father to me for many years. Mahalo Harold.

"I was robbed!", was my standard greeting whenever I bumped into the Chief in the hallway or at an event. He was a Captain at the time when we played softball at Lanakila Field at night. He was playing left field and was backed up close to the fence because we had some pounders in the Alpha Detail. I saw that and decided to place the ball right over shortstop and drop it between Chief and shortstop. I kept it low, but high enough above shortstop. Damn it! Harold read my swing and started charging in even before I made contact. At full speed he came in and snatched it up at a full run. From then until the end of his career, with every ounce of respect he deserved, I admired Harold for the gold standard he set as a police officer and as a leader. To Leilani and family, he has found his peace and has left his mark in this world and your lives.

I have worked with Chief Kawasaki in the HPD for over 3 decades up to my retirement. We worked together at Pearl City/Waianae patrol; Narcotics/Vice Division; and in Central Honolulu Patrol. He was a gracious man, dear friend, and great officer!
