Helen Murakami Obituary

HELEN M. MURAKAMI In Loving Memory Helen Mitsuko Murakami passed away on May 6, 2022, just one week shy of her 102nd birthday. Mom was born on May 13 in Koloa, on the island of Kauai. The family initially lived in Koloa until her father started working for Mr. & Mrs. Isenberg and moved the family to live on their estate in Lihue. She was a 1939 graduate of Kauai High School and continued her education at Galusha Business School in Honolulu. While attending business school, Mom worked at the Ritz Store then moved on to Hartfield's when they opened at Ala Moana Center. She retired as the Store Manager in 1984. Mom loved to travel and she and her husband Shigeto, traveled the world. Mom also enjoyed going to church, bon dances and helping out at the Honpa Hongwanji. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and cooking their favorite foods. Mom always made sure whomever stopped by would be embraced by her warm hospitality and delicious food. Mom is survived by Dennis & Sue Murakami, Cynthia & Stephen Pang. Grandchildren: Brandon (Miyuki), Brent (Jenna), Jonelle (Mark), Ryan and Great-grandchildren: Samantha, Miles, Laurajane, Emily, Maile, Callan, Ainsley. Predeceased by her husband, Shigeto. A huge Thank You to Kalakaua Gardens and Malama Ola for their exceptional care. We miss you Mom and think of you every day. We'll always remember your bright smile, outgoing personality, warm heart and delicious food. Private services were held. Arrangements Provided By: Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary
