Helen Oyama Obituary

HELEN MITSUE SHIRAKI OYAMA Helen Mitsue Oyama, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on June 24, 2025 at the age of 88. She was born on April 10, 1937 in the small town of Koloa on the island of Kauai, in Hawaii. Helen was a career army wife and proudly supported dad when he served during the Vietnam conflict. Not an easy task as there were five children at the time. Mom didn't have any hobbies until she met best friends Sharon and Nancy who introduced her to dog shows and Springer Spaniels. Some of her fondest memories were road trips across the state to participate in the shows. Later, she was introduced to senior aerobics at Mel Korum Family YMCA, where she met many new friends that shared her desire to exercise and be healthy. Helen was preceded in death by parents Takeo and Tokiyo Shiraki, brother Jimmy, and loving husband Daniel. She is survived by children, Robin, Donna, Alan, Roger, Daniel Jr; grandchildren, Robin Jr, Brandon, Danielle, Alana, Jessica, Logan; and great-grand- children, Omi, Lochlan, Emilia, Silas, and Sophie. She will always be loved and missed dearly. Mom will join Dad at the National Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, HI.
