Hideko Sakai Obituary

HIDEKO I. SAKAI Hideko Ijuin Sakai was born and raised in Stockton, California. She was the youngest of 3 sisters. She and her family were sent to a Japanese Internment Camp in Rohwer, Arkansas during World War II. After being released they went to live in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was there that she met her future husband, Clarence S. Sakai who was attending Tulane University. After getting married and living in Milwaukee and Pittsburgh, they returned to Hawaii to raise their family. Hideko got her degree from the University of Hawaii which was a personal accomplishment for her. She passed away February 21, 2023 at the age of 96. She is survived by daughters Sharon Sato (Mendel) and Leslie Tawata (Ricky), 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two older sisters Hatsuko and Toyo Ijuin. A private Celebration of Life will be held at Manoa Valley Church and will be inurned with her husband at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl Arrangements Provided By: Oahu Mortuary
