Hiromu Izumo Obituary

HIROMU IZUMO Hiromu Izumo, 96, passed away in December 2025, closing a long life marked by service, reliability, and quiet integrity. Born in 1929, Hiromu was a combat veteran of the Korean War, where he earned the Bronze Star for valor. After returning home, he continued his military service for nearly two decades in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He spent nearly 30 years with the Hawaii State Department of Education, more than half of them being the Principal of Noelani Elementary School in Manoa Valley. He was married to the late Patsy Izumo (n?e Masuda), Ed.D., for nearly seven decades. Known for his biting but good-natured humor and remarkable memory, he was a stern samurai father who became a loving, devoted grandfather. Hiromu's children continued his legacy of service and dedication: he is survived by his daughter Kiku (herself a lifelong educator) and his sons Darren (Maj., HPD (Ret.)) and Colin (Capt., USAF (Sep.)). He also leaves behind grandsons Dallan and Brandt; granddaughters Ariel, Emily, Courtney, Lindsey, and Kelsey; and nine great-grandchildren. A private remembrance will be held to honor his life and service. Arrangements Provided By: Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary LLC
