Hisako Morimoto Obituary

HISAKO MORIMOTO 91, of Honolulu, HI, passed away peacefully at home on October 19, 2024, surrounded by cherished family members. Born on November 24, 1932, in Shuri, Okinawa, she was preceded by her parents Saburo Tamashiro and Kami Matsukawa, and her husband, Lincoln Akira Morimoto. As a devoted member of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI) Buddhist community since 1961, Hisako regarded its president, Daisaku Ikeda, as her lifelong mentor. Her uncompromising faith and belief in kindness and respect for others were reflected in her immense generosity and deep care for everyone around her. She gifted many with her talented works of elaborate crochet, embroidery, beautiful quilts, and especially whimsical and ornate dolls that were displayed at a major department store and bank lobby in Okinawa, delighting customers to no end. Compared to her youth of suffering and surviving the ferocious Battle of Okinawa in 1945, Hisako's golden years were like that of a grand, magnificent sunset in Hawaii. Memorials celebrating her life were held at home on November 24 and 25; her inurnment ceremony took place at Diamond Head Memorial Park on November 26. She is survived by her daughters: Margie Hall (Michael J. Riggins and MJ), Joyce Kawada (Hidetsugu), and Janet Hanamoto (Dean); grand- daughters Lisa Inthirath (Kevin), Erica Hasegawa (Stacy), and Sophia Kawada-Zeek (Devon); and great-grandchildren, Kaley and Mila Inthirath, and Rix Hasegawa. Hisako Morimoto was, is, and will continue to be loved by those who knew her, and will live on in each of our hearts. Arrangements Provided By: Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary LLC
