Howard Uyehara Obituary

HOWARD EIZO UYEHARA 91, son of Kamei and Fumi Uyehara, and retired dentist passed away on January 23, 2026. He was born in Kahuku and raised alongside his beloved brothers and sisters in Malaekahana and Laie. After his parents moNved to Honolulu, he attended Maryknoll High School and met people who would become his life-long friends. Thereafter, he graduated from the University of Michigan and Northwestern University Dental School opting to return to Hawaii to practice general dentistry. He met his wife, Ellen Tanigawa, and they had three children who gave him three grandsons. He held tremendous love and pride for all of them. When Howard was not thinking about golf, he was fully dedicated to his profession. He was naturally friendly, funny, generous, and compassionate, traits that endeared him to his patients, many of whom stayed with him from the 1960s until his retirement in 2017. His family has often said that his kindness attracted people who were equally kind, and in this way, he was very blessed. At home, his keen mind was often on his yard, carpentry projects, mathematics problems, and events in history. He was a classical music enthusiast and enjoyed the Hawaiian songs of old. But most especially, he adored the 1940s Big Band tunes that were a big part of his youth. He was valued, loved, and will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; son, Nathan Uyehara (Lyn); 2 daughters, Jolene Auvil (Todd) and Jayna Pitcher (Jack); grandsons, Zachary Pitcher, Luke Uyehara, Noah Uyehara; brothers, Robert and Alan Uyehara; sister, Nikky Mori. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thomas Takashi and Akira Uyehara; sister, Grace Owan. Private services held. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
