Inocencio Lapenia Obituary

INOCENCIO SONNY LAPENIA, JR. Inocencio "Sonny" Lapenia Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on April 27, 2024. He was born on January 28, 1941, in Waimea Kauai to Inocencio Lapenia and Tomasa Lampitoc. He attended Kekaha Elementary on Kauai and later graduated from Waimea High Class of 1959. After high school, he attended El Camino College in Torrance CA, majoring in art. He spent most of his career in graphic arts and newspaper advertising. He was respected and admired by his colleagues for his talent, hard work, and outgoing personality. He was a true artist in every sense, whether behind the lens of a camera, in the kitchen infusing every meal with love and flavor, or with a paintbrush in hand creating beauty on canvas. He enjoyed preparing meals for old friends and cherished every moment spent with them. His home, affectionately called "The Lapenia Hotel" was open to everyone, even strangers because of his warm personality, compassion, and love for others. His camera's creative lens opened the door to many lifelong friendships. His home was blessed and filled with the sound of music, love for each other, and love for God. "Uncle Sonny" or "Grandpa Sonny" will be missed by many but his memory will live forever in our hearts, inspiring us to live life to the fullest, just as he did. His talent, kindness, and gentle spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Married for 62 years, survived by high school sweetheart Shirley Cabo, Sons: Kevin (Paloma), Inocencio "Sonny Boy" III (Michelle), Donald (Beth), Daughters: Corie deceased (Willie), Shawna (Kainoa), and Sister: Nona Gersalia. He has nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Visitation 9:30 a.m., Service 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary.
