Izumi Yoshizawa Obituary

IZUMI YOSHIZAWA Izumi Yoshizawa passed away peacefully in Honolulu on July 24, 2023. Born on October 23, 1923 in Olaa, Hawaii, Izumi was the second of seven children born to Bunpei and Michie Yoshizawa. He grew up in the sugar plantation culture and after graduating from Hilo High School, enlisted in the Army and was assigned to the Military Intelligence Service where he served in China and Southeast Asia during WWII. After the war ended, he met and married Elizabeth in 1947 in Japan and moved to Honolulu where they raised their family. After earning a BA in Business at the University of Hawaii, he worked as an accountant and retired from both the United States government and the State of Hawaii. Izumi was generous with his time and was always giving to his friends and community, whether he was sharing his catch of fish with neighbors, giving Ki massages to friends and acquaintances, or directing a Tai Chi class for Seniors. He loved talking story with anyone. No matter if an old friend or someone he had just met, he would, without fail, share stories with them. Izumi is survived by son Thomas (Gwyn), daughter Priscilla Wagner (Ron), grandson Sam Wagner, sister Yachio Hamada, brothers Tadashi and Rodney, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Elizabeth, sister Chiye Takishita and brothers Mitsuo and Shozo. Visitation at 1:00 p.m. at Hosoi Garden Mortuary on Sunday, September 24, 2023. Service begins at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Disabled American Veterans, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
