JAMES RUSSELL THOMPSON James Russell Thompson, born on January 10, 1943, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, in Kailua, HI. He was 82 years old. Jim lived a life marked by dedication and service. A proud alumnus of Roosevelt High School and Colorado State University, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Construction Management. Jim served in the Hawaii National Guard from 1966 to 1970, a period during which he demonstrated commendable commitment and discipline. Following his military service, Jim joined the family business, Walter P Thompson, Inc., where he began his career in his teenage years and later became the company president in 1976 and obtained his Land Court license in 1977. Throughout his career, Jim was not only a leader in his field but also a mentor, teaching at Honolulu Community College within the Engineering Tech Program and educating peers across various industry sectors. His contributions were recognized with the HLSA Surveyor of the Year Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Jim's personal life was as rich and fulfilling as his professional endeavors. He was a loving family man, survived by his sons, Jayme (Cris) and Dave (Ashlyn); brother, Walt (Enid); grandchildren, Hunter, Austin, and Kennedy; step-grandsons, Kale (Brittani) and Taylor (Mercedez); and many nephews, nieces, cousins, step-great-grand- children and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Francine. An avid supporter of his grandchildren, Jim relished watching their activities like soccer, volleyball, and baseball. He also enjoyed reading and appreciating the beautiful landscapes of Maunawili. A memorial service will be held on August 2, 2025, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 1317 Queen Emma St, Honolulu, HI 96813. The visitation will start at 10 am, followed by the service at 11 am, and refreshments and fellowship at noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Institute for Human Services, Shriners Hospital, Hawaiian Humane Society, or St. Jude’s Cancer Hospital for Children. Jim's legacy is not only in the industry he thrived in, but in the hearts of those he touched with his generosity, wisdom, and kindness. He will be deeply missed.
