JANICE KONDO Obituary

JANICE TAKAKO KONDO 89, of Orange County, CA, passed away peacefully at home in Oct. 2024, surrounded by loving family. Jan was born in Honolulu, HI to Kaneki & Helen Honda. While employed at Aloha Airlines, she met her future husband, Ronald Kondo, and married him in Aug. 1956. She was co-owner of Kondo's Okazuya in Lahaina, Maui, then worked 20+ years at Liberty House of Hawaii, retiring as Human Resources Sr. Mgr. in Ala Moana. After retirement Jan and Ron moved to Woodland Hills, CA to be near their grand- children. She enjoyed 30+ years of retirement, including years with the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center (SFVJACC) in Pacoima. She loved performing with the Kupunas Ukelele Club and serving as a hula instructor. In the spring of 2021, Jan gave her life to Jesus Christ and was baptized. In the summer of 2021, she and Ron moved to Orange County to be near grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jan is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Ronald Y. Kondo Sr.; daughter Diane (Paul) Matsumoto; son Ron (Ruby) Kondo Jr.; son- in-law Vern (Janine) Chun; grand- children: Jeff (Kat) Matsumoto, Katie (Kellen) Moore, Amy Matsumoto, Brandon Kondo, and Emily Kondo; great-grandchildren: Adam Matsumoto, Nora Matsumoto, and Miles Moore; sister-in-law, Lynn (Glenn) Honda; favorite nephews: Glenn Jr., Linton, and Reid Honda and their families; and cousins in Hawaii and Japan. A Celebration of Life will be held at the SFVJACC, 12953 Branford St, Pacoima, CA 91331 on Sat., Nov. 23, 2024, at 11:00AM. Casual or Hawaiian attire and no flowers are requested.
