Jeanne Porter Obituary

JEANNE VIVIAN PORTER Jeanne passed away at the age of 93. She is survived by her sons, David Porter and Michael Lee Hudson her daughter, Sharon McKellar, by grandsons, Cody Porter, Johnathan Hudson, Mark McKellar and great grandson, Wilson Nakamura-McKellar. She was born in Alexandria, Virginia to Earl and Virginia Plaugher. She married Frank M. Bennison at 17 and had her first child at 20. She divorced Frank, father of her first two children, Sharon and Michael. She left the security of her small town of Dunn Loring, Virginia to accept an overseas position with the State Department in Istanbul, Turkey. Eighteen months in to her two-year tour, she met and married United States Marine, Murray Sklar. She then left her job with the government and became a military wife. Their first duty station was the Defense Language Institute in Monterey where her third child, David, was born. At the conclusion of the one-year tour in Monterey, the Corps sent the family to Hawaii in 1963. Jeanne divorced Murray and married Kimo Porter, owner of Hawaiian Air Filters. Together they opened Kimo's restaurant in Kaneohe in 1977. When Kimo was diagnosed with prostate cancer they left their home on Kaneohe Bay in the hands of son, Mike, and bought a home in Tiburon, California to be closer to quality medical services. They enjoyed cruising together until Kimo passed and Jeanne returned to Hawaii. She became an artist and volunteered her time with Windward Artists Guild. She then married Greg Greenwood but it lasted only a year. Next, she married Jim Schade, sold her Kaneohe bayfront home, and moved first to Pua Alii, then to Pohai Nani. When Jim passed, Jeanne's vascular dementia caused her to land in the loving hands of the memory care facility at the Plaza at Punchbowl until a sequence of health events necessitated her spending her last days in Liliha Healthcare Center. A brief burial service will be held at Hawaiian Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. on September 29, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mid-Pacific Country Club on September 29 from 3 to 5 p.m. RSVP by September 15 to [email protected].
