JERRY COLE Obituary

JERRY EDWIN COLE Jerry Edwin Cole, 78, passed away on April 16, 2024, in Vancouver, WA. He was born in California and served in the Air Force for 11 years. Jerry was a structural engineer who applied his expertise not only to his career at Fluke but also to building his own home, his passion for golf, amateur radio, HO trains and building Chris Craft model boats. He held a special place in his heart for Kauai, where he enjoyed spending time. Jerry's dedication to his country during his military service was matched by his commitment to his hobbies. He obtained his higher education from the University of Nevada-Reno, where he played baseball as a catcher. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants, playing on their farm team. In his personal life, Jerry was a loving husband to Sandy Cole. He is survived by his wife, daughter, Diane Wetmore (Darren) and step-sons, Darin Knight (Keri), Andrew Knight (Kristin) and Adam Knight, as well as grandchildren Dylan Wetmore (Charlene), Bailee Natsiopoulos (Phil) step-grandchildren Julia, Adrienne, Lauren, and Lindsey Knight, and great-grandchildren Dean Wetmore and Bennett Natsiopoulos. At Jerry's request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Kauai Humane Society to honor his love for animals. Jerry will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love for golf, and his kind nature. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Arrangements Provided By: All County Crematorium

Jerry went to the Makai Golf course as a single. Our friend Sam Meyer (RIP), the starter, said he could join the threesome on the first tee, that they were Glenn Frey and the Eagles. Jerry said, "They don´t look like football players to me"...Go ! True Story.

Jerry was the first "golf buddy" I met in Princeville in the Fall of 1998. He and I played four or five days a week, 27-36 holes on the Makai Course for the then $35 all-day fee. Speed Golf! We then added several others like Roy Donahue, Sam Meyer, Teddy Sharp to the mix of maybe ten regulars. We golfed at every course on the island for years. Penny and I socialized often with Sandy and Jerry, scarfing down the Prime Rib at Chuck´s , drinks at the Hotel Living Room and other Island establishments. Jerry didn´t talk much about his baseball career with the San Francisco Giants with whom he had a "cup of coffee" in the 60s. Good hitting catcher, but couldn´t make the throw to second! He was a good friend and will be missed. Condolences to Sandy.
