NIXON, John William

John William Nixon, age 94, died on September 23, 2025. John was the son of Leonard R. Nixon and Maud D. Nixon. He attended Cornell University on an NROTC scholarship, where he sang in the Men's Glee Club and Cayuga's Waiters, a triple quartet.

After serving in the U.S. Navy for three years, he lived in New York City, where he met and married the light of his life, Lea Paxton. He worked for several companies before joining the management consulting practice of Haskins & Sells, now Deloitte Consulting Group, where he worked for 28 years.

After retiring to Atlanta in 1989, he volunteered at several organizations including The Atlanta Project, Pinecrest Academy, Georgia's Choice (whole school reform), Cherokee Town & Country Club, and Techbridge. He also worked with IBM to develop the ticketing system for the 1996 Olympics. He served as president of the International Club of Atlanta and the Lenbrook Residents Association and Treasurer of Cherokee Town & Country Club.

An admittedly bad golfer, John still enjoyed playing at the Cherokee Town and Country Club, especially with the Golf Group and with his son, Jeff, in the annual Member-Guest Tournament. He loved singing and was a member of the Big Chicken Chorus for over 25 years.

He and his wife enjoyed travelling and visited over 105 countries. They have lived in Japan, Australia, Turkey, Great Britain and Sri Lanka.

He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Lea; and is survived by his daughter, Diana Nixon, of Eugene, OR; his son, Jeffrey Nixon; daughter-in-law, Lisa Nixon; and granddaughter, Lauren Nixon, of Bellaire, TX; and his grandson, Lafayette Taylor of San Francisco, CA.

A memorial service will be held at Lenbrook Senior Community, on October 11, 2025, at 11 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta may be made in John's memory.
